Phoenix Home & Garden: Renewable Energy Rewarded

Marlene Imirzian & Associates Architects is recognized in Phoenix Home & Garden section “Around Town February 2018” for being the winner of the Sustainable Home Design Competition.

RENEWABLE ENERGY REWARDED

“RENEWABLE ENERGY REWARDED Phoenix’s own Marlene Imirzian, FAIA, president of Marlene Imirzian & Associates Architects, was recently awarded a $100,000 prize as winner of the Sustainable Home Design Competition, a contest to create a “near net-zero energy” single-family dwelling that has the best potential for widespread adoption in this region. Working in tandem with architect Jay Atherton and a team that included local engineering and construction experts, Imirzian designed a 2,170-square-foot energy efficient midcentury Modern-inspired home that can be built at a cost of $158/square foot. “In the Southwest, we can lead the way to limit both energy and water use, which is essential to maintain our beautiful Sonoran Desert,” says Imirzian. “This is all achievable, and you don’t have to be a rich person to do it. We could be—and should be—implementing these practices in every piece of new construction.”  The competition was sponsored through a partnership between the City of Phoenix and the American Institute of Architects.”
